Esmeralda Lopez

Hello! My name is Esmeralda, but you can call me Esme! I’m thrilled to be going into my last semester at SDSU where I will be completing two Bachelors in Sociology and Spanish, a minor in Counseling & Social Change, the Public Law Certificate and the Translation & Interpretation Certificate. I was born and raised in San Diego and I’m so grateful to call this city my home. In my free time, I love spending time with my loved ones whether it’s going to the beach, having coffee together, or simply sitting down with them and catching up. I also enjoy going on runs and taking naps (which I like to consider my form of self-care). Through my time at SDSU, I have lived on campus, been a commuter for the majority of my time here and had the opportunity to be involved on and off-campus. Some of my involvement on campus includes working at our bowling alley (Aztec Lanes), being an SDSU Ambassador, and participating in leadership roles through student organizations such as the EOP Student Advisory Board. Off-campus, I have interned with JusticeCorps, a national service program that helps Californians find access to justice. One of the biggest highlights of my time at SDSU has been being a mentor for the EOP SOAR Mentor Program for two years and found my passion for serving our community of resilient and inspiring first-generation students. Through my role as a mentor, I had the opportunity to share my college experience, help others learn from my past mistakes, and guide them through their first year at San Diego State. This is what fueled my desire to work with Summer Bridge this summer, where I hope to help and support you all in every way possible as you navigate and transition into life as a first-generation college student. Together we share the common goal of achieving all that we aspire to do and become, and I am excited to join you on this beautiful journey!

JusticeCorps 2018-2019, I had the privilege to intern through JusticeCorps where I helped underrepresented members of the community find access to justice and safety.

I had the incredible opportunity to present on behalf of the EOP SOAR Mentor Program at EOP's 50th Anniversary conference, SOAR changed my life.

One of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen and experienced - La Fortuna, Costa Rica.

Katie and Sydney, my first two friends at SDSU who I now call my best friends and have held me down through my entire college journey.

¡Mi familia! The people who have built me, loved me, and inspired all of my goals and aspirations.

One of my happiest memories from my freshman year at SDSU with some of the people I most love!

This is Lexie! The coolest, kindest, most loving pup a girl could ever ask for.
