Calvin Liew

Hi everyone! I am Calvin Liew, academic tutor of Introduction to Sociology. For much of my life, my relationship with learning was rottened by my hate for schooling. For much of my life, too, I lacked a language to distinguish the two. Since I first stepped foot into a classroom as something of a teacher, it has only become increasingly apparent this lifelong agony characterizes not only my alienation, but also my convictions as an educator. In such a situation of lovelessness, educating is a radical act of love. This is why I teach. En route my endless journey of learning, I picked up a major in Sociology and a minor in Women's Studies. I am returning for a Master's in Sociology. I have been sighted around campus as that angry dude who gives presentations on cultural genocide, that guy who speaks against student fee increases, and that Teaching Assistant of one of SDSU's legendary professors, Tom Semm. I love playing music, swimming, reading, reflecting, reading, reflecting, reading, reflecting, praxis...

This is Chewy. He is cute, but eats too much...

Yes, I really did my Summer Bridge interview in booty(running) shorts.

Ukulele is the instrument I picked up most recently

One of my presentations at SDSU Center for Intercultural Relations, "Global Empire: Simulations of Cultural Difference"
