Martha Rodriguez

Martha Rodriguez, a first-generation Latina, was born and raised in San Diego from immigrant parents originating from Guanajuato, Mexico. She is currently undergoing her junior year at San Diego State University as a Television, Film and New Media Production major, with two minors in Theater Arts and Honors in Interdisciplinary Studies. Martha’s passion for film has allowed her to tell the stories of the misrepresented and marginalized LatinX community, as she strives to bring more diversity and inclusivity through her art on screen and behind the screen. Her work has been displayed at an international level through film festivals and broadcast T.V in Latin America and Europe. In 2019, Martha was honored with the award of Best Spanish Language Short in the 5th Edition of the AT&T Film Awards for Chips and Salsa and the opportunity to study at the University of Southern California. She later won the 2019 EL Pitch competition for $1,500 and a broadcast contract with TV Cotros to show the 2020 short film Identification, allowing her to create more unique stories that encompass the LGBTQ+ and LatinX community. These awards have become her steppingstone; as she gives back to her community and fight for representation. By inaugurating and organizing SDSU’s first annual LatinX Film & Art Festival, Martha will advocate, educate, and grant a voice to anyone who identifies and supports the event. Opening new doors to inspire and bring hope to the next generation, as the universal language of film did for her.
